I think that calculus, although challenging, is not an impossible subject; however, it is sometimes difficult to find a good teacher. I recommend regular study.

Twelve weeks of Calculus I can be summarized in one word for many who have experienced it: hell. It is a more complicated version of mathematics, but still not impossible. There is hope. You can earn one extra point (out of 20) by having a grade superior to 14 in the mini-exam at the beginning of classes (the contents are about highschool mathematics). If you don't get a 14 or more, you can still earn this extra point by answering several short quizzes through the weeks. There is also another way of easily earning points: by being a good Raven in your week. The class will be divided in 8...

The workload is a bit demanding, given that every week there exists a quiz on the second class to assess how well we are on the materials taught in that exact week. Also, you need to be a "raven" at least once, which consists in solving and explaining an exercise in front of the class. There are workbooks with many different exercises, but in order to prepare for the midterms or exams, I would suggest to prepare yourself through solving the past midterms and/or exams. There are plenty of teachers in this course, but if you are an international student be aware that there are some that only...

A lot of new contents all at once and can be very overwhelming. Would vividly recommend always going to the office hours, regarding the teachers so no doubts stand. The slides are relatively bad compared to the actual things we must know so try to talk with teachers and peers. With the ravens system you basically get 4/3 extra values so it’s great!

Devia ser possível reciclar os pontos de raven para o próximo semestre caso a pessoa falhasse o curso , é muito esgotante ter de repetir essa parte da avaliação contínua . Em ADP é assim

This is was perhaps the most atrocious class I took. I could not keep up. I had to do every handbook on moodle to even try to understand a small part. If you have the opportunity really recommend getting a tutor for this course. However don’t worry, they try their best to give small works so when the semester ends you get 4 values out of nowhere.

Some teachers are not the best and the materials could be more useful. The videos and office hours are a huge help.

This course is as hard as any other mathematical course. The handbooks provided in moodle are useful but usually more difficult than the midterms. It is also important to know the theory well. The best tip i can give is to not think that this is an easy course after the first midterm, that is usually very accessible. It is important to attend all classes as teachers usually highlight the theory that you will need to know.

You have to work hard and keep up with it to be prepared for midterms and for the final exam.

Definitely watch the suggested videos, work on exercises weekly, go to classes and office hours. That was my regret, if I had studied more consistently rather than leaving most of the workload to right before the exams, understanding the concepts wouldn't have been so stressful. The teachers are also very open to helping and explaining problems; ask questions! :)

You have to be on top of this subject 24/7 or else you will just get lost and loose track of it all. Go to classes, really, that’s what helped me the most, sometimes I missed one and felt like “Now I’m going to fail this”

Yes, it is challenging, do not overestimate other people's opinions. however, it's manageable and you can't get 20 with some effort! remember, if some people were able to, why wouldn't you be?

It is a demanding course and one of the most feared courses. The midterms are multiple choice and the final exam is a mix between multiple choice and written questions. It is different than maths that i was used to, it is kind of the boring part of maths like demonstrations and exercises of “prove that…” or “show that…”. However it is survivable.

Try to study everyday and actually understand how to do the exercises as the exam is on paper not like tge midterms. The teacher explains everything like you are 5 years old so you can understand it and the videos are great to make your one notes

Personally, i really didn’t like this course because it was super heavy on works outside of classes and you needed to go to every single classe if you wanted to keep up with the themes.

I think the course is too abstract and difficult to comprehend.

My professor was one of the best, so my class was always full, but it was not because of her that I had a good grade. The materials are difficult and you need to study a lot. Every year, they change the assessment type because it's always so difficult, but it's feasible.

Do the exercises, assist classes, use the office hours. Requires discipline, real effort, real ability to self criticize. João Farinha is the best one to go to.
The reviews below this point may be outdated. Course content, teaching methods, and requirements may have changed since then.
