Descrição

Objectives

Students learn concepts related to environmental sanitation, namely learn to design water supply infrastructures (including storage tanks and water distribution networks) and wastewater drainage systems. Basic concepts related to characterization of water quality. Simplified sanitation systems for developing countries.

Syllabus

1 - Scope and aim: fundamental concepts, urban water cycle. 2 - Water supply systems: historical review and fundamental concepts; source development, water intakes and water supply mains; pumping systems; storage tanks; water distribution networks. Simplified water supply systems. 3 - Wastewater systems: historical review and fundamental concepts; source, flowrates and wastewater characteristics; planning and design of wastewater systems;dry sanitation and fecalsludge management; stormwater management in urban areas. 4

  • Introduction to water quality. Simplified sanitation systems for developing countries.

Cross Competence Component

Work in group and communication (oral and written) skills whose evaluation approximately corresponds to 10% of the final grade

Laboratorial Component

Classes for project development in the Laboratory of Technology Information (LTI)

Ethical Principles
