Objectives

This CU seeks to contribute to: - Provide effective knowledge in the physical functioning of urban networks; - Evaluate and integrate information and technology in networks to support urban life; - Discuss ways to articulate and combine the different networks and their essential elements.

Syllabus

COMMUNITY FACILITIES NETWORKS: Community facilities as elements of urban policy and territorial cohesion; smart planning of facilities networks and urban analytics. Complementarity and integration with other networks on a smart city context. NETWORKS OF TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE: graph theory; typologies of urban transport networks; transport infrastructure networks: road, cycle and pedestrian; network analysis; performance indicators; monitoring systems; ICT, ITS and transport management URBAN WATER NETORKS: signals and sensors; analysis and signal processing; anomalous events and burst detection; pattern recognition; demand prediction and real-time service management; optimal sensor location. GREEN INFRASTRUCTURES: Ecosystem services for urban resilience; nature based solutions; resource efficiency in management and maintenance; interactive experiences of outdoor spaces; integration with other networks – water, equipment and mobility.

Cross Competence Component

Development of soft skills in: Critical Thinking, namely strategic thinking about problem solving approaches; Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills (oral, organizational and teamwork, self-discipline, perseverance, self- motivation); and Information and media literacy (ability to locate and access information, as well as to analyze and evaluate media content). The assessment percentage associated with these skills should be around 20%.
