Descrição
Objectives
Acquire expertize in modelling and production optimization of subsurface geological models for geological CO2 storage. Interpret and discuss results obtained from numerical tools of stochastic optimization and fluid percolation in porous media.
Syllabus
Review of basic concepts on fluid flow simulation in porous media. The challenges of modelling CO2. the static reservoir model. Model initialization. Manual and assisted history matching. Geostatistical history matching. Closed- loop optimization of engineering variables, optimization of storage parameters, development options. Techniques to monitor geological CO2 storage.
Prerequisites
Knowledge about concepts of modelling spatial uncertainty, geostatistics and fluid dynamics in porous media.
Cross Competence Component
Development of teamwork and communication skills through the oral presentation of works (10% of continuous evaluation).
Laboratorial Component
Development of a project during the course to build a subsurface geological model for CO2 storage and fluid dynamics.
Programming And Computing Component
The student will use commercial software for stochastic optimization (e.g. Raven) and for numerical fluid flow (e.g. Eclipse) (25%).
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
