Descrição

Objectives

The student will be able to distinguish between the geophysical data used to model Earth resource. Do the qualitative interpretation techniques of seismic reflection data acquired in different geological settings. Do the quantitative interpretaion of seismic data (AVO analysis and inversion). Provide experience in interpretaion and inversion software.

Syllabus

Review about the seisimc method and main petroleum systems. Seismic amplitudes. Artifacts and interpretation pitfalls due to velocity anomalies. Mapping of elements of the petroleum system and lead identification. Approximations to compute reflection coefficients. Strucutal and seismo- stratigraphic of 3D and 3D seismic datasets. Forward modelling. AVO Analysis. The seismic inverse problem. Pre- and post-stack seismic inversion. Stochastic and deterministic seismic inversion. Uncertianty in inverse modelling. ROck physics modelling. Prediction of rock properties. Application examples.

Prerequisites

Knowledge about basic concepts on geostatistics, modelling spatial uncertainty and geophysics.

Cross Competence Component

Development of teamwork and communication skills through the oral presentation of works (10% of the continuous evaluation).

Laboratorial Component

Development of a project with the interpretation of 3D seismic data in workstation. Development of seismic reservoir characterization (inversion) project.

Programming And Computing Component

Development of small routines in scientific programming languante (e.g. Matlab and/or Python) to manipulate and interpret the results obtained from seismic inversion. Use of commercial software for seismic interpretation and modelling (e.g. Petrel and HampsonRussel. (Weight 50%).

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
