Objectives

To deepen skills for the exercise of the profession in the critical reading of the territory and in the design of architecture with a high level of complexity. To deepen the ability to relate the different scales of intervention and decision making of architectural design recognizing their reciprocal relationship. To deepen the articulation between the proposed intervention and the premises of other disciplines. To articulate the theoretical and critical research on what exists, in a context of spatial- functional and technical-constructive analysis, with the proposed intervention. To deepen the capacity of reflection on the proposed program as well as conceptual and theoretical bases for the development of architectural space. To develop the spatyal design according to the materiality and constructive solutions. To consolidate graphic, written and oral skills inherent to the communication of architecture and the capacity of decision making.

Syllabus

Development of the project at the scale of the building that should: 1)Consider the reciprocity between the scale of the territory and the building in the way it is implanted and how it materializes; 2)Integrate principles of other disciplines in the proposal and that arise from the critical reading of the territory; 3)Integrate other specialties inherent to the exercise of architecture; 4)Develop a theoretical body for discussion of the program; 5)Develop a theoretical reflection of conceptual basis of the proposal; 6)Investigate the materiality and constructive solutions that arise from the meaning of the proposed building and that refer to the reciprocity between the territory and the building constructed. 1st Phase: Analysis of the surroundings and proposal for intervention. 2nd Phase: Theoretical bases and discussion of the program. 3rd Phase: Materiality. 4th Phase: Construction. 5th Phase: Critical report of the intervention proposal.

Cross Competence Component

The integration of SOFT SKILLS in this UC promotes the development of the following capacities: i) reflection, research and self-learning i.e, understanding the dimension and nature of the problem under study; consultation, organization and production of information about the problem under study; integration and relationship of knowledge acquired in other areas; ii) communication and transmission of ideas and conceptual intentions, i.e. know and apply: different physical models (descriptive) to support the development of projects; different strategies for bi and three-dimensional representation and visual communication according to the phase and type of project development; different means to share and communicate ideas; iii) work autonomously and in groups. The percentage of cross-cutting components in evaluation is 20%.

Laboratorial Component

Laboratory components involves the practical work developed at the design studio. Students are initiated into the design work and are encouraged to actively draw from the knowledge they have acquired in seminars. Laboratory activity (design studio) are concerned with: the understanding of architectural meanings, content and main problems; tepresentation of ideas and forms, acquired by the practice of drawing, observation and use of visual communication technologies (VCT); practical knowledge of the construction process, in terms of technical, economical and procedural aspects; development of routines of collaborative and multidisciplinary work

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
