Objectives

Students at the end of the course should know: - characterize the spatial continuity of continuous or categorical spatial variables - estimate maps of continuous or categorical spatial variables - characterize the local uncertainty of continuous or categorical spatial variables.

Syllabus

Models of natural resources in the framework of probabilistic formalism. Geostatistical models. Analysis of the spatial continuity pattern of natural resources: variogram and spatial covariance. Geostatistical estimation. Probabilistic model of the geostatistical linear estimator. Media kriging in local areas. Simple kriging. Kriging practice. Spatial characterization of categorical variables. Kriging of the indicator, access to local uncertainty. Applications of geostatistics in the areas of natural resources, minerals, environmental health, urbanism, climate, economy, environment and oceanography.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of probability and statistics.

Cross Competence Component

Develop the ability to work in teams and communicate through the oral presentation of works (10%).

Laboratorial Component

Development of a computational project over the academic weeks that includes the spatial characterization of quantities linked to natural resources, minerals, environmental health, urbanism, climate, economy, environment and oceanography (40%)

Programming And Computing Component

Aprendizagem de utilização das ferramentas de geoestatística inserido na componente projeto; utilização do software geoMS e SGems (25%).
