A parte teorica é so decorar.
Eles deram imensos exames...

The project was really interesting, it's like an investigation. But the course has a lotttttt of contents. Too much in my opinion. Studying for the exam was a pain. Overall I recommend this course just for the project.

Boa sorte!

Classes: The lectures were a bit of a drag. Prof. Nuno Santos is super eloquent and explains concepts clearly, but sometimes he spends too much time on the basics, which can make it tough to stay focused. The lectures often made me feel a bit sleepy.
The lab classes were more useful for project work but felt skippable unless you had specific questions or needed guidance on how to advance in the project. The TAs were extremely helpful in that sense
Project: It was a very refreshing project and definitely the course’s most engaging part. You’re given some artifacts to investigate and must...

As is common knowledge from hearsay and other reviews, CSF is a very interesting subject: it touches on subjects unlike any other course in MEIC, such as steganography and network forensics. Not wanting to sound cliché, it does scratch an itch for those who grew up on NCIS and police investigation shows, even if the techniques employed are obviously more beginner friendly, but it does well in creating a sense of curiousity.
My biggest gripes start with the absurd amount of content taught in the slides (some of which isn't even addressed in classes due to sheer imbalance compared to the course...

Project: 3 moderate workload projects (groups of 3), about real, useful and interesting techniques. The projects are great and we had a lot of time to do them in my opinion.
Exam: 1200 SLIDES of pure content for the exam. The subjects are really interesting in my opinion (most of them) but there are too many subjects. I've never taken an exam with so many content in my 3.5 years at IST.
Overall: Interesting course, I would recommend it if you enjoy ciber-security, networks security, etc. but be careful with the exam. No classes are mandatory.

This is by far the most interesting course I've taken. It's more about channeling your knowledge of operating systems and networks than learning something new.
- The project is unveiling secrets from a cybercrime, divided into 3 parts (metadata/steganography/etc, analysing a disk image, analysing network traces).
- Each part is due in 2 weeks after the announcement. The unveiling is fairly quick if you know what to look for. Reporting is painfully long and has to be complete - no omissions.
- I do recommend partnering up with other interested and thorough students, as otherwise, this course...

Im not gonna say that you dont learn cool stuff in this course. But it was not worth it for me. The projects (3 with 2 weeks to do each one) are very pratical and not the worst, but they are time consuming, you will need to discover clues which already takes time but then write reports for each one, 2 weeks for all of this keep in mind. The teacher was nice but the classes made me snooze and were so boring, the slides are so big with so much information they dont even teach everything in the classes, matter of fact i would say less than 20% is actually thought! The worst part is studying for...

I’ll start by saying that although this might seem, based on other comments, like the ideal course for you, I completely disagree and want to show you a bit of reality. This is by no means a course that should last only 7 weeks. In my opinion, it’s one of those courses that IS NOT WORTH TAKING.
Let’s start from the beginning: the theoretical classes, in my opinion, are very bad. Maybe it was just me, but Professor Nuno Santos could spend half an hour on the same slide saying nothing of real importance, and then in the next 5 minutes rush through 20 slides, leaving you completely lost. To...

The projects can consume some time but for me, it was the most fun project yet! Exam consistes of too much information but the theory actually made me understand many concepts.

This is one of those rare courses where you actually learn useful, practical skills you can apply in real life. The content is focused on real-world scenarios, making it both engaging and valuable. Just a friendly heads-up: the exam covers a lot, so stay on top of the material. But overall, it's incredibly worth it.

Enrolled on this course as a Free Option and enjoyed it. Project is very fun and interactive if you are motivated to investigate, but its quite long. Lab classes are purely for project assistance.
The exam theorical component ist very looong, but I found most of topics interesting and easy to understant, even tough I'm not looking for the CyberSecurity major.

Without a doubt the most in depth and hands on project that we've ever done at IST :) If you are interested in Forensic Cyber Security it's a must-take course

Very cool project but quite a bit of work

Overall Impression
This was one of my favorite courses of the master's. It's fun, engaging and makes you feel like a real "hacker".
You’ll learn very interesting topics through hands-on, story-driven projects that simulate real-world cybercrime investigations.
Teacher and Labs
- The theoretical classes are taught by Professor Nuno Santos. I didn’t attend many of them, but the ones I did were well explained.
- The lectures are clear and useful, but after a while, you may find them boring and you can learn most of the theory directly from the slides.
- Only...

One of the best courses I had in MEIC.
I enrolled in this course because I’d only heard good things about it — and those opinions were right.
You learn a lot about cyber security, how to investigate a cybercrime, and what techniques hackers use. But I’ll warn you: the theoretical component is really long, and you’ll have a gazillion slides to study for the final exam. However, most of these slides cover topics from previous courses to give context and help students (e.g., computer architecture, computer networks, etc.).
The project is really fun and, in my opinion, not very...

CSF gives you the ultimate 'hacker' feeling in cybersecurity. The project is probably one of the coolest in the Master’s, where you follow a cybercrime investigation and have to find various clues, from hidden images/text in files to packet exchanges.
The project topics are usually current and meme-ish, which makes everything more fun.
As for the lectures, I think the professor is good, but a lot of different topics are covered (maybe too many), especially since the exam covers the entire syllabus. It’s not that the topics are uninteresting, but it can definitely feel...
