Descrição

Objectives

This course covers emerging technologies of forming and joining of tubes, profiles and sheets. The main calculation methods are presented and numerical simulation programs are used to design the processes, project the tools and select the most appropriate equipment. Similar methodology is applied to powder processing and additive manufacture of metallic materials.

Syllabus

1. Processes for Forming tubes and profiles. Stresses and strains. Tool design. Equipment.Forming with elastomers, pressurized fluids, explosive charges and with electromagnetic actuation. 2. Advanced Joining Processes. Classification of joining processes. Plastic deformation-assisted joining processes: mechanical joining, solid state welding, hybrid joining involving fusion welding and plastic deformation. Adhesive joining processes. 3. Powder technology. Metal powder production, Compaction. Sintering, Plasticity and forging of metal powders. 4. Metal Additive manufacturing. Classification of metal additive manufacturing processes. Powder Bed Fusion (PBF)and Direct Energy Deposition (DED). Introduction to Laser Power Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM).

Prerequisites

Approval in Manufacturing Processes I and II or equivalent courses.

Cross Competence Component

The work to be carried includes the following soft skills: critical and innovative thinking, decision making, teamwork, leadership, written communication and oral communication, use of computer and multimedia tools, report structuring and presentation.

Laboratorial Component

1. Experimental mechanial joining, powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing tests 2. Finite element simulation of joining by forming processes and metal forming of powder components.

Programming And Computing Component

Knowledge in CAD systems is required.
