Durante o semestre tens de realizar um trabalho em grupo em que realizas umas simulação sobre uma empresa de venda de bicicletas.

Esta simulação mete os teus conhecimentos sobre a disciplina constantemente em prática pois tens de usá-los para tomar decisões acertadas e obter boa pontuação na simulação.

No fim do semestre tens um exame sobre a matéria toda mas é relativamente fácil, o exame tem sempre a mesma estrutura e perguntas o que muda é a empresa que te é atribuída para analisares.

Tens de fazer um plano de marketing no exame para essa empresa.

The course is really demanding, since every week we have to deliver slides for the group project that is huge. The exam is not that hard but you have to know what they really want you to say in the exam questions, and to know that you have to go to the last Office Hour, that is the preparation for the exam. In terms of materials you have the slides from the pratical and theoretical classes available. The pratical classes are mandatory, but the theoretical classes are not.

Group work is too large, grades appear to be lower on purpose, even for better groups.

It is demanded of students to guess what is on the teachers’ minds about the questions in the exam: the question can be about the 4 P’s but you are expected to guess that they want you to talk about something else as well. The only way to know that this is going to happen is by going to the final OH, which is incredibly unfair as it is not mandatory to attend it.

The exam guidance mentions consistency is a part of the grading, but then they make you repeat yourself along the exam.

It is a course where you have weekly workload but it is not that demanding and is actually fun since it is kind of a game between several groups. The final exam has been the same for the last years, with the exact same questions and the only difference is the company that you are “evaluating” so you can have a good grade if you answer all the topics.

I really enjoyed this course. Although the theoretical classes are less impactful than the practical ones, we had a short quiz at the end of each class that counted towards participation in the final grade. The practical classes mainly focus on group work, where you’ll take part in a marketing simulation and make strategic market decisions. My advice is to choose a strong group with people who are genuinely interested in marketing and to put real effort into the final group report, as the exam structure is very similar. Quizzes in every theoretical class + only one theoretical class schedule so very problematic for students with overlap, as there is no flexibility to try to change your marketing class schedule.

Na minha opinião, esta cadeira tem potencial para ser uma das mais interessantes do curso, mas a forma como está estruturada acaba por desperdiçar essa oportunidade. O trabalho desenvolvido ao longo do semestre não contribui para uma compreensão prática dos conceitos de Marketing nem ajuda os alunos a perceber como estes são aplicados em contextos reais. Em vez de reforçar a aprendizagem da matéria, acaba por ter pouca ligação aos conteúdos lecionados, o que faz com que muitos alunos cheguem ao exame sem terem tido oportunidade de consolidar os conhecimentos através da prática. Worked every week but really paid off. Ended with 17. Had an assessment every week, a group project about a bike company. For the exam I memorised what to say because it’s always the same 4 questions and basically the same answers, really worked for me. Used what was moodle and on the SU’s portal. Recommend going to last OH about the exam, they said everything you had to mention, most of the info on the powerpoints is good but not really relevant.

The entire course is focused on group projects, so the tip is to choose a good group that works well together. The resit is easy (at least mine was). The material wasn't what I expected, but it's very interesting to apply in other contexts. The theoretical classes aren't very useful in my opinion; you can read the slides and that's enough. My TA wasn't the best, as she never helped us with the simulations; when we had doubts, she simply said, "Do what you think makes sense".
