Objectives
The student should be able to understand the manufacturing processes and applications of composite materials. The student must acquire knowledge of composite recycling.
Syllabus
Pulverotechnology. Production methods of Ceramic Matrix composites (Cold press and sintering, Hot Press, Reaction bonding, Chemical vapor impregnation, Liquid-phase sintering) and Metal Matrix composites [Liquid state processes (casting, liquid infiltration), Solid state processes (Diffusion bonding, deformation processing (swaging, extrusion, drawing or rolling) and In situ processes (unidirectional solidification)]. Polymer Matrix Composites Production Methods (Pultrusion; Filament winding; Resin transfer molding (RTM); Hand lay up; Prepregs; etc). Laminate composites. Sandwich-shaped panels. Industrial applications. Degradation, repair and recycling of composites.
