Objectives

Learning the tools for doing calculations of renormalization in Quantum Field Theory. In the end, the student should know how to renormalize QED and simple theories.

Syllabus

I. Regularization. Dimensional regularization. Wick rotation. Feynman parameterization. Momentum shift. II. Renormalization in QED. Photon and electron self-energies. Vertex renormalization. Counterterms. III. Other simple theories. Power counting and renormalizable theories. IV. Renormalization group.

Prerequisites

Analitical Mechanics, Classical Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics I and II, Particle Physics, Quantum Field Theory

Cross Competence Component

80% - Critical and innovative thought (problem solving strategies, strategic and critical thought, creativity). 20% among intrapersonnal Competence, interpersonnal Competence and Information Literacy.

Programming And Computing Component

0.25 ECTS of Qgraf and/or other software of use in calculations.
