With the conclusion of this UC, the student will have acquired knowledge, skills, and competences in the different areas of spatial planning from the perspective of sustainability. Namely:

a) Will be able to understand the concepts, problems, fundamental variables, territorial management instruments and actions that underlie the activity of sustainable spatial planning that integrates the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals;

b) Develop a critical spirit, analysis and problem-solving skills, and obtain fundamental knowledge regarding institutions, fundamental legislation and the respective planning instruments;

c) Acquire skills to understand the importance of sustainable planning instruments at different scales, as well as the process of integration with policies, strategies, programs and projects.

The Theoretical Classes provided students with the theoretical content and will be seen as a route guiding research activity (individual or group) and intend to stimulate a critical thinking. The practical classes will enable students with skills in practical and field work, oriented to learning-by- doing through problem-solving. The teaching method is oriented to the students to develop: a) critical thinking b) Individual and group ability to develop and use a method closer to the reality studied; c) the ability of argumentation and reasoning consistent in exposure the studied themes individual or in group. The tutorial system will be provided using the e-learning system. Ongoing assessment based on two group assignments and two evaluation tests. In addition, is also weighted the resolution of practical exercises and the frequency of lessons and general student performance during the semester.
