At the end of the curricular unit the student should attain the following objectives:

(0) Understand the concept of influence line of internal force/ external reaction and displacements and calculate the corresponding function for isostatic structures;

(1) Understand the fundamental concepts of risk analysis and safety management in civil engineering and their importance on the process of decision making;

(2) To define in a quantitative manner the safety of a structure in a probabilistic and semi-probabilistic framework;

(3) To apply the methods for safety check of structures according to the current codes and standards, in particular the partial safety factors method;

(4) To identify actions on structures, self weight, live loads, snow, wind and earthquakes;

(5) To quantify and combine actions on structures according to current codes and standards;

(6) Design of simple steel and reinforced concrete structures.
