Objectives
Recognizing the rapid evolution of urban way of life, the increasing complexity of activity chains and dynamic mobility patterns, this course aims to provide students with (i) the dominant factors, requirements and challenges that determine urban mobility and accessibility, (ii) the existing technical solutions to address them, (iii) the competences to understand the citizens’ mobility behavior and decision-making mechanisms, (iv) some existing solutions provided on the supply side, (iv) as well as how to address concrete problems and set up intervention tools for mobility planning and management.
Syllabus
1. The urban mobility systems and multimodal networks included in the regional planning and management. Main characteristics and factors. 2. Technical and functional features of the different modes (private and public). Public Transportation. Intermodality and interfaces. 3. Urban infrastructure, geometrical design, its structure, functionality, safety.Roadways and railways. 4. The study of the urban streets (geometric, structure, drainage, services). The interface between the "space for the pedestrians" and the "space for the cars". Leveled and unleveled pedestrian crossings and walkways. Bicycle lanes. Urban parking and its management. Case studies.
Cross Competence Component
The UC allows the development of transversal competences in Critical Thinking (strategic thinking, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving approaches), Interpersonal Skills ( communication, teamwork and leadership), Intrapersonal Skills (productivity and time management, stress management, productivity and initiative) and Information and Media Literacy (use of software tools from the user's perspective, structuring and formatting of documents).The assessment percentage associated with these skills should be around 10%.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
