Estruturas Geotécnicas II
Descrição
Objectives
The student will be able to manage problems related with the design of the more usual geotechnical structures.
Syllabus
Application of the concepts of mechanics of geotechnical structures and safety verification to the geotechnical design. Ultimate limit states and serviceability limit states. Design of the more usual geotechnical structures: shallow and deep foundations, gravity walls, embedded walls and slopes. Soil compaction. Geotechnical design according to Eurocode 7.
Prerequisites
The student should have attended the curricular units Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Structures I.
Cross Competence Component
The CU allows the development of transversal competences on Critical Thinking (strategic thinking and problem solving approaches), Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Skills (oral and written, organizational capacity and teamwork, self-discipline, perseverance, self-motivation and stress management skill), and Information and Media Literacy (ability to locate and access information, as well as to analyze and evaluate media content), in the quiz tests and group assignments. The assessment percentage associated with these competences should be around 20%.
Laboratorial Component
Soil compaction test in the geotechnical laboratory of IST (1h).
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
