Objectives

Immuno-Oncology (I-O) is dedicated to the study of immune responses to tumors and their application in the treatment of cancer. The advances in this area in the last decade, combined with the enormous relevance of neoplastic pathologies in developed countries, justify a solid training in I-O. The specific objectives of the I-O disciplinary area are to: 1 - Identify the immunological component of the tumor microenvironment; 2 - Understand the cellular and molecular basis of immune responses to tumors; 3 - Distinguish the main immunotherapeutic options under development or already in clinical practice, while understanding the Fundamental Science components; 4 - Discuss the main experimental strategies used in research in Immuno-Oncology; 5 - Identify the biggest challenges and future perspectives in the area of cancer immunotherapy; 6 - Contribute to the best preparation of students for a possible specialization in Oncology or Hematology.
