Ciências e Tecnologias do Fabrico I
Descrição
Objectives
To introduce and apply advanced monitoring, modelling and control techniques of bioprocesses. Modelling and simulation of dynamic biosystems for: (1) for understanding / learning purposes, about the biosystem functioning principles, and (2) for process operation, supervision, control and fault diagnosis. A comprehensive exposure to multiparametric and online monitoring techniques, plus chemometrics' techniques for multivariate process analysis and supervision is one of the most important competences obtained by students taking this course.
Syllabus
- Monitoring, supervision, and control of chemical and biological processes. - Multivariate statistical analysis. - Industrial data management and processing. - Data science concepts and dashboarding. - Differential equations systems: process simulation. - Exploratory data analysis methodologies. - Machine learning: unsupervised methods. - Machine learning: supervised methods. - Linear versus non-linear methods. - Development and implementation of algorithms. - Good modeling practices. - Optimization: gradient-based and evolutionary methods. - Statistical process control. - Feedback control: PID controller. - Advanced process control strategies.
Prerequisites
Any student who has been admitted to the following 2nd Cycle programs is eligible to attend this course unit: MEFARM, MEBIOL, MEQ, MEBIOM, MEAMBI.
Cross Competence Component
The concepts taught in this course unit are fundamental for the course 'Manufacturing Sciences and Technologies II' (1st year, 2nd semester), but are largely based on foundational concepts that are applicable not only in the subsequent academic curriculum but also in the various professional paths stemming from this Master's program. Key competencies include: ● critical thinking and problem-solving; ● teamwork and collaboration; ● communication skills (written, oral, digital); ● project management; ● ethics and responsibility and ● digital literacy.
Laboratorial Component
Computer lab sessions (PL).
Programming And Computing Component
The use of computing and data science tools is present throughout the entire structure of the MEFARM program. In this course unit, the following tools are used: ● Matlab (MathWorks): basic to intermediate. ● Python (Python Software Foundation): basic to intermediate. ● Orange Data Mining (University of Ljubljana): basic to intermediate. ● Excel, Power BI (Microsoft): intermediate to advanced. ● MySQL (Oracle): basic."
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
