Descrição
Objectives
Enable the understanding of the theoretical fundamentals of joining technologies. Acquire a general knowledge about joining techniques for metallic and non-metallic materials. Evaluate the most appropriate joining process for any type of joint: metallic, ceramic, composite, plastic or hybrid. Develop the ability to select the appropriate equipment, procedures, and operating parameters, select the most suitable raw materials and design the corresponding tools and auxiliary devices. Present the main joining processes with an emphasis on economic aspects and the final quality of the resulting components.
Syllabus
1. General introduction to the joining processes. Fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills for selecting the most appropriate joining processes for metallic and non-metallic materials, tailored to each industrial application. 2. Fusion welding processes. Solid-state welding processes. Brazing processes. Adhesive bonding. Mechanical joining. Joining by plastic deformation. 3. Influence of procedures, operating parameters, thermal and mechanical effects, residual stresses, deformations and surface finishing on the integrity and performance of joints. 4. Quality control, non-destructive testing, and normative criteria, along with an economic feasibility analysis of the different joining processes.
Cross Competence Component
The work to be carried includes the following soft skills: critical and innovative thinking, decision making, teamwork, leadership, written and oral communication, use of computer and multimedia tools and presentation.
Laboratorial Component
1. Experimental tests with arc welding processes. 2. Experimental tests with resistance welding processes. 3. Experimental tests with high power density joining processes. 4. Experimental tests with solid-state and plastic deformation joining processes. 5. Experimental tests with adhesive bonding processes. 6. Quality control testing
Programming And Computing Component
