Objectives

The aim of lectronic structure theory is the calculation and understanding of materials properties from quantum mechanics. The capacity of performing calcluations of properties for simple systems will be important.

Syllabus

I - Density functional theory. Effective potentials. II - Band structure: Plane-waves, local orbitals, augmented waves. III - Short introduction to many-body methods.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, Statistical Physics and Condensed Matter Physics.

Programming And Computing Component

Homework problems are mostly computational.
