Bachelor's in Systems Engineering

  • 3 years · 6 semesters
  • 180 ECTS

The Bachelor's in Systems Engineering is a 3-year first-cycle degree (6 semesters, 180 ECTS) at the Porto School of Engineering (ISEP), in daytime hours. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to gathering requirements and to planning, developing and analysing systems that turn concepts into products and services. The degree was designed in partnership with the Associação Empresarial de Portugal (AEP).

The plan combines electrical and mechanical engineering, computing, applied mathematics and management. It includes, for example, Electrical Systems, Digital Systems, Electronic Systems, Mechanical Systems, Modelling and Programming, Numerical Methods, Operations Research, Data Analysis, Decision Analysis, Information Systems, Integrated Management Systems, Production Processes and Logistics, Project Management and Industrial Costing. There is a lab course in each of the first five semesters, and teaching has a strong practical and soft-skills component. In the final semester, students do an internship in a company or a final project in a research group.

Graduates work in production planning and control, quality management and control, operations management, logistics and distribution, production and information systems, managing projects and multidisciplinary teams, and consultancy. At ISEP, they can apply, for example, to the Master's in Informatics Engineering, in Supply Chain Engineering and Management or in Critical Computing Systems Engineering.
