Description

Objectives

Knowledge of the principal sources of pollutant and acoustic emissions from aircraft and associated mechanisms. Knowledge of acoustic emissions and noise certification rules for commercial transport aircraft. Make use of the acquired knowledge to define strategies for operation and design of "green" aircraft.

Syllabus

Part A: Study of Pollutant Emissions A1 - Introduction. A2 - Major Environmental Effects of Atmospheric Pollution. A3 - Aircraft Propulsion Systems. A4 - Pollutant Emissions of Aero-engines. A5 - Operation and Design of Aircraft for Low Emissions. Part B: Study of Acoustic Emissions B1 - Introduction. B2 - Propagation of Sound in the Atmosphere. B3 - Noise Measurement. B4 - Airplane Noise Sources.

Cross Competence Component

The adoption of different approaches to solve the underlying problems is encouraged in project work, as well as the analysis of the potential results on design, operational and economic aspects, thus contributing to the development of Critical and Innovative Thinking. In addition, teamwork and oral presentation of the projects contributes to the development of Interpersonal Skills

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
