Description

Objectives

This CU complements the subjects in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering that are not included in the curriculum, with a set of seminars with invited industrial or academy experts in several engineering fields. The students should understand: - the National and European strategy for the mineral and energy resources - licencsing and other legal issues associated with the exploitation and production of mineral and energy resources - recent developments in the operations associated with the exploitation and production of mineral and energy resources - industrial case studies - the importance of "artificial intelligence" and the "internet of things" to the exploitation and production of mineral and energy resources

Syllabus

The seminars are presented by invited speakers, most of them from industry. The classes are mostly lectures, with presentation of real case studies and industrial best practices. The seminars topics may change from one year to the other. Some of the areas that could be included are: - Smart wells and smart fields - Digital mine - Blockchain - Life cycle assement - Subsea tecnologies

Cross Competence Component

The CU allows the development of transversal competences in Critical Thinking including strategic thinking and problem solution approach, presentations and debates; Interpersonal and Intrapersonal competences (oral, organizational and team work, autodiscipline, perseverance, auto-motivation); Information and media literacy (capacity to search for and access information and evaluate media contents) and in global citizenship (ethics and social responsability in the engineering activity). The percentage of evaluation associated to these competences should be around 50%

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
