Description

Objectives

Be able to model and analyse geographical data through an individual project contextualized in other curricular units of the course or with the dissertation project, using advanced acquisition or spatial data processing techniques.

Syllabus

THEORETICAL CLASSES: Part I: Advanced topics on spatial data acquisition (satellite-based positioning, laser scanning, unmanned aerial vehicles) Part II: Advanced topics on geographical information systems (analysis of spatial data algorithms and optimization, decision-support, network analysis, 3D GIS, storymaps, app development) LAB CLASSES: Project development

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of geographical information systems.

Cross Competence Component

Develop critical judgement on the presented thematics and on their importance on the engineering practice. The unit includes a project with a live presentation and discussion, potentiating communication skills, which are included in the evaluation (40%).

Laboratorial Component

Use of a computer lab with GIS software

Programming And Computing Component

Computing: development of a project which includes data modelling tasks (with a choice of the adequate models based on abstractions for spatial modelling), valued at 20% of the total grading.

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
