Description

Objectives

Make students aware of the new strategies and methods of production management needed for effective alignment with a sustainable 4th Industrial Revolution, developing skills in : - Understand the importance of IoT in the context of industrial production, as well as the implications of the transition to a Cyber- Physical production system. - Design and plan strategies that lead to the application of Digital Lean Production or Lean 4.0, Lean & Green 4.0 Production , in a context of industrial symbiosis and circular data-based economy ; - Apply methods of continuous improvement and data-based problem solving for production planning and control, and day-to-day management of people and resources, economically and environmentally sustainable; - Develop projects where the application of the logic of the 4th Revolution Indu strial contribute to more sustainable production systems (using the inter c onnectivity , transparency of information and decentralization of decisions)

Syllabus

Industry 4.0 (i4.0) and production management. The importance of IoT and cyber-physical production systems . I4.0 Design Principles (DP) and current technology concepts. I4.0 Maturity and Readiness Models. The roadmaps for i4.0. Planning and control of production based on data. Statistical process control in the context i4.0. Management of KPIs and daily meetings in a context of i4.0. Lean Diagnostics and Data-Based Lean Methods and Tools (Lean 4.0). Data management and people management (Lean & Green 4.0). Continuous improvement and problem solving in under DP-interconnectivity , DP- transparency of information and DP-decentralized decision environment ( Problem-Solving 4.0). The importance of technological concepts in production management (DP-technical assistance).

Cross Competence Component

The topics of this course are centered in resources management and leadership in companies, so the soft skills are an important component of the assessment (20% to 30%), mainly the ones related with the group work development (in an industrial company) and presentation (in the company and in lectures): e.g. critical and innovative thinking, decision making, teamwork, leadership, written communication and oral communication, use of computer and multimedia tools, report structuring and presentation.

Programming And Computing Component

In the group work is usually necessary the use of discrete events simulation, production planning or even data-anaytics based softwares. These softwares usually need simple programming or parameters settings actions, but no specific skills. In some particular cases, the students need to build-up heuristics or monte-carlo simulation, where programming skills are usually necessary.

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
