Projecto em Energias Renováveis Marítimas
Description
Objectives
The objective of this curricular unit is to provide the students with the background and methodologies of multidisciplinary aspects associated with the various marine renewable energy technologies and bring into practice the specialised knowledge on marine energies in a case study. The objective will be achieved through formal lectures, tutorials and a project.
Syllabus
Public policies and the ocean economy. Ocean habitat. Environmental impact assessment. Public consultation and conflict of uses. Environmental monitoring. Offshore operations. Maritime safety issues. Operation and maintenance of ocean energy devices. Cost of energy. Project feasibility assessment. Electricity market and future scenarios. Multi-criteria site selection and GIS software. Analysis of marine energy systems with dedicated software. A project comprising a technical, economic and environmental impact analysis of a marine renewable energy system.
Prerequisites
Attendance to at least one of the following courses: Offshore Wind Energy, Marine Current & Tidal Energy and Wave Energy.
Cross Competence Component
The assignments and project work require critical and innovative thinking and are presented in an oral presentation contributing to improving scientific and technical communication among future engineers.
Laboratorial Component
The students use GIS software and marine energy systems dedicated codes, e.g. OpenFAST for offshore wind, for given test cases.
Programming And Computing Component
The students run GIS and marine energy systems dedicated software.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
