Description

Objectives

At the end of the course, the student must: - Identify the geological processes associated with the generation of geothermal reservoirs and oil and gas reservoirs - Know the main characteristics of the energy fluids and heat on Earth. - Know the main methods and technologies associated with the exploration, evaluation, production and management of geothermal energy, their characteristics, advantages and limitations. - Know the main methods and technologies associated with exploration, evaluation, production and management, their characteristics, advantages and limitations.

Syllabus

Nature of natural rock energy reservoirs: geothermal reservoirs and oil and gas reservoirs. Characterization of the various types of reservoirs: Fractured, Clastic and Carbonated. Main exploration techniques. The Properties of Reservoir Rocks: Porosity, Permeability, Fluid Saturations, Wettability. Basic concepts for the calculation of Reserves: methods of assessment of formations, maps and geological profiles, characterization of petrophysical properties, practical examples of application. Fluid compositions and properties. Fluid flow regimes. Essential characteristics of the different Systems, Phase Diagrams and Practical Examples. Technologies and methods of geothermal energy production and oil and gas recovery.

Cross Competence Component

Development of critical thinking and problem solving, team work, oral and writing communication. (10%)

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
