Introdução à Teoria da Aprendizagem
Description
Objectives
Identification of languages and functions, such as scientific laws or scientific theories described either by sets of numbers or by sets of functions. Introduction to machine learning addressing: (a) laws that can be learned by computable or non-computable scientists, (b) the complexity of identification, and (c) the validity of inductive inference.
Syllabus
Concept of a scientist according to Gold. Identification of languages and functions. Computable and non-computable scientists. Memory-limited scientists. Identification by computable scientists. Central theorems. Strategies, criteria and environments for language and function identification. Classes: Ex, Ex*, Bc, Bc*, TxtEx, TxtEx*, TxtFex. Consistent, reliable, Popperian, exact, and memory-limited scientists. Team identification of languages and functions by deterministic and probabilistic scientists. Identification by oracle scientists. Complexity issues in identification.
Cross Competence Component
The UC allows the development of transversal competences on Critical Thinking, Creativity and Problem Solving Strategies, in class, in autonomous work and in the several evaluation components. The percentage of the final grade associated with these competences should be around 15%.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
