Os professores são bastante profissionais e as aulas são interessantes. Os labs são praticamente todos de apoio ao projeto e aconselho a irem porque o feedback ao longo das semanas é essencial para a avaliação. O projeto consiste em criar a segurança de um sistema simples, é bastante trabalho porque envolve a parte criptográfica, a proteção da rede e ainda pedem uma demo com várias VMs. Apesar disso, recomendo foi dos projetos mais interessantes da área de ciber no IST. O exame é bastante puxado mas há bom material de estudo para a preparação.

A cadeira é muito interessante e útil para quem quer aprender mais sobre cibersegurança, porém tem uma carga de trabalho muito elevada que não tem em conta os timings e projetos de outras cadeiras.

As aulas dividem-se em teóricas e laboratórios, em que nas teóricas são lecionados os conceitos base que serão utilizados no projeto. As aulas de laboratório servem para ajuda ao projeto. Aconselho vivamente a comparecer a todas.

Os materiais necessários são computadores que tenham a capacidade de correr vários processos ao mesmo tempo. Por experiência própria tive que correr 6 maquinas...

A avaliacao é projeto e exame.

O projeto é mega giro, basicamente crias uma biblioteca para encriptar e desencriptar um file, e depois tens de simular como manda lo e com varios clientes. A coisa que nao gostei no projeto foi ter de ter mil e uma maquinas virtuais, tipo…. É trabalhoso

A parte teorica é mesmo so estudar, mas a materia é interessante entao faz se bem.

Theoretical classes → even though Ricardo Chaves is the one that interacts the most out of the two lecturers, I found them very interesting, would recommend.

Practical classes → the weekly “delivery/assigned work” page does not reflect all the work you should do for that week, at all. Besides that the lab worksheets are pretty good.

Exam → fairly simple, the slides are good and are enough to learn about each topic.

Project → we had a TA that was quite bad at explaining the project, but the project was not that hard, it just takes lots of time.

Classes

Theory classes were given by Prof Ricardo Chaves and Prof Miguel Correira.

• Prof Ricardo is very (VERY) interactive and might keep you engaged for the whole 2h.
• Prof Miguel keeps a quieter and slightly unintelligible tone... definitely not as memorable. Classes are skippable although I'd encourage all to attend the cryptography ones.

Lab classes can be useful until you have an idea of what will be done in your project. Apart from that I personally would not bother.

Project

The project is very complete. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE. The handouts are usually very challenging and...

I think this is actually a pretty nice course, but I strongly recommend not taking it alongside many other heavy courses, it’s demanding. If you’re into cybersecurity, this course is almost a must. If you’re not honestly, stay away.

The course's teachings are interesting but the lab classes leave something to be desired and some concepts can be very confusing and not explained in the best way during the theory classes.

O conteúdo desta cadeira é mega interessante e parece bastante essencial na area de segurança (kinda parece que devia ser de licenciatura, se não fosse tão trabalhosa). Acaba por ser bastante útil, recomendo 👌.

Cadeira muito importante para a área de segurança. Aprende-se coisas que qualquer engenheiro informático devia saber sobre segurança. O projeto é bastante puxado e complexo, preparem-se para entregar umas boas semanas das vossas vidas, e o pior é que calha em cima da altura do natal. Mas depois de feito vale a pena. O chato do exame são as escolhas múltiplas a descontar. Duro de fazer, mas acho que vale a pena pelo conhecimento que se ganha.

SIRS is one of the most important courses in the degree, and in my opinion, it should've been placed in the final year of the undergraduate program. The course is a bit demanding, but I think it's worth the effort.

It had one of the most interesting projects I’ve done, but it was a lot of work: We had 3 weeks to complete it, and the assignment said it was expected that each group member would put in 48 hours per week. Depending on your topic choice, the project can be more or less extensive.

The project discussion is a presentation where the professors will try to tear apart everything you say and every decision you made. Your project grade depends on how well you handle that and how well you understand what your system does and doesn’t...

I'd say SIRS is one of the most important courses in the master's, since it teaches all the fundamentals of security. But it is still one of the harder ones.

The professors teach well, and the material is overall interesting. The tests are usually difficult, but that’s normal given what the course is about.
