Description

Objectives

The main objective of the “Maintenance, Quality and Safety” course is to introduce the concepts and strategies of the reliability, quality and maintenance subjects. Graduates gain a thorough knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of maintenance engineering and equipment’s safety. Graduates will be able to: - build and enhance the specialist skills needed to optimize the maintenance of industrial assets and to develop critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills in a multi-disciplinary engineering maintenance team encourage a cross-disciplinary and pro-active approach to the solution of maintenance problems. Apply metrology methods to the analysis of quality parameters (Examples: calculate calibration uncertainties; define calibration certificate acceptance record) and establish requirements and procedures for statistical process control and sampling.

Syllabus

General Principles of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety; Breakdown concept. Failure rate. Failure analysis and Pareto diagram. Risk function. Reliability of components. Bathtub curve. Availability; Analysis and Prevention of Failuires; Maintenance. Types, Levels and Organization of Maintenance. Classification and codification of equipment. Maintenance Planning. Maintenance Techniques - Maintenance Policies. Preventive, systematic, corrective, condition-based and predictive maintenance. Prediction and maintenance optimization. Selecting an optimal maintenance strategy. Equipment replacement policies. Spare parts, reserve equipment inventory management, and human resources and fleet management. Maintenance Costs and Unavailability and its optimization. LCC. ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (safety) standards. Metrology.Calibrations and uncertainties. Statistical process control. Sampling.

Cross Competence Component

- Critical and Innovative Thinking (creativity, strategic thinking, problem solving approaches) - Interpersonal Skills (oral presentations, communication and organizational skills, teamwork, etc.) - Intrapersonal skills (self discipline, enthusiasm, stiffness, self motivation, etc.). The assessment of the soft skills corresponds to 10% of the industrial project report grade

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
