Máquinas-Ferramenta e Comando Numérico
Description
Objectives
This course covers diverse fields and topics related to machine tools and numerical control programming. It addresses the latest technological advances and aspects related to tools and auxiliary systems, whose importance and dissemination in manufacturing industry deserve greater emphasis. The course syllabus provides a complete overview of all relevant aspects that will enable students to make decisions required in professional practice, in particular: (i) classification of machine tools in order to allow selection, installation and utilization of key technologies, (ii) work preparation and computer assisted part programming taking into consideration the characteristics of the machines and the manufacturing processes and (iii) project and design of tools for key manufacturing technologies. Students are also expected to practice their knowledge in a real production situation taking into consideration the concepts of ‘design for manufacturing’.
Syllabus
1.Classification of the machine tools. 2.Machine tools for (i) metal forming, (ii) machining and (iii) non-conventional manufacturing processes. 3.Numerical control machine tools. 4.Programming of CNC-machine tools. 5.Process planning and machine tool setting up. 6.Installation, maintenance and repair of machine tools and tools. 7.Project and design of tools for metal forming, blanking and polymer processing. 8.Monoblock and progressive tools for production lines.
Prerequisites
Approval in Manufacturing Processes I or equivalent course.
Cross Competence Component
The work to be carried includes the following soft skills: critical and innovative thinking, decision making, teamwork, leadership, written communication and oral communication, use of computer and multimedia tools, report structuring and presentation.
Laboratorial Component
1. Preparation and utilization of machine tools. 2. Machining of parts using CNC machine tools.
Programming And Computing Component
Direct programming (G code) and computer-aided manufacturing programming (CAD / CAM) of numerical control machine tools. Utilization of computer software for selection of cutting tools and definition of machining parameters, and for the design and project of industrial tools.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
