Description

Students will acquire the following knowledge and competencies:

Identifying and characterizing the main ecosystems, resources, and activities in coastal and marine areas, as well as recognizing key challenges, risks, and opportunities related to the effects of climate change on these areas.

Providing students with:

a) Innovative methodologies for the integrated and sustainable management of coastal and marine areas, leveraging information technology and remote sensing.

b) The latest techniques in environmental planning, ecosystem-based management, and the integration of nature-based solutions. Development of methodologies for determining beach carrying capacity.

c) Cutting-edge methodologies for the development of climate change adaptation plans and strategies, including adaptation baseline scenarios, impact and vulnerability assessments, and adaptation options, considering hazards, vulnerabilities, and risks in coastal areas (protection and defense, accommodation, and relocation).

d) The latest cost-benefit assessment methodologies for spatial planning options and adaptation strategies in coastal areas.

e) Methodologies for actively engaging coastal communities in planning and management processes, fostering co-construction of solutions to enhance coastal and marine literacy.
