Tópicos em Física de Partículas e Astropartículas II
Description
Objectives
To obtain a deep and updated understanding of some selected, theoretical or experimental, subjects in particle and astroparticle physics. To understand, at the present research level some experimental and theoretical subjects.
Syllabus
The program is organized in main subjects covering all research areas in the field. These topics are common to both semesters. Each student will follow, in each semester, a subset of these subjects according to his/her plan of study. A- Particle Physics 1) CP Violation and Baryogenesis. Neutrino Physics and Leptogenesis. 2) Quantum Chromodynamics and asymptotic freedom. Quark confinement. 3) Models with extended Higgs sector, including supersymmetry. 4) Deep inelastic scattering; electroproduction and neutrinoproduction; structure functions 5) Parton model; quarks-partons; experimental predictions. Partons in QCD; comparison with experimental results. Parton model and QCD in e+e- annihilation. Fragmentation functions. B-Astroparticle Physics 6) Astrophysical and solar neutrinos 7) Gamma rays 8) Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays 9) Dark matter: theoretical models and detection.
