Objectives
Getting an introduction to the Standard Model of Unification of the electromagnetic and weak interactions, with emphasis also on some open questions.
Syllabus
I. Introduction. Global, local symmetries and their spontaneous breaking. Noether's theorem. Goldstone theorem. Higgs mechanism. Non-abelian gauge symmetries. II. The Standard Model (SM). The SM Lagrangian. Charged and Neutral Currents. Yukawa couplings and fermion masses. The CKM matrix. III. Extensions of the SM. Neutrino masses and oscillations. Multi-Higgs systems. Other current research topics.
Prerequisites
Analitical Mechanics, Classical Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics I and II, Particle Physics, Quantum Field Theory
Cross Competence Component
