The main objective is to provide working knowledge on the physical, environmental and economical aspects of nuclear fission reactors, as well as on their technological evolution through successive generations. SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS: To successfully reach the expected learning outcomes, students should have pre-knowledge of nuclear physics.

I FISSION REACTORS Physical working principles; Nuclear fuel cycle; Nuclear safety principles; Types and evolution of fission reactors. II ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS Routine radioactive releases and their impact; Radioactive releases during accidents and their impact; Accidents in Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima. III ECONOMICAL ASPECTS Cost structure in a nuclear power plant; Nuclear fuel costs; Decommissioning costs.
