Description

Objectives

The objective is to develop personal competencies in students, dealing with the practice of engineering in the current professional environment, related to problem solving, team working, ethics and international culture.

Syllabus

The programme addresses aspects related to the development of working techniques in engineering: methods for dealing with and solving problems, team working and leadership, meetings structuring and minutes, international culture, ethics, and presentation of study cases.

Prerequisites

Given the nature of the course in soft skills, dealing with engineering practice, there are no prerequirements.

Cross Competence Component

Given the focus on soft skills, all the various dimensions are explicitly addressed, i.e., Critical and Innovative Thinking, Interpersonal Skills, Intrapersonal Skills, Global Citizenship, Information and Media Literacy.

Laboratorial Component

Classes are about topics presentation and discussion. Topics are presented by the students and assigned to them as follows: Solver - student that will present the topic; Challenger - student that will challenge the Solver's presentation; Moderator - student that moderates the presentation and discusson of the topic. Thus, discussion in problem solving is fostered, enabling learning with error correction.

Programming And Computing Component

The component in Programming and Computing is reduced, given the focus on soft skills.

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group’s work In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
