Introdução às Ciências da Conservação

This curricular unit has the following objectives:

- the teaching of the scientific method and the application of methodologies from the exact and natural sciences in conjunction with the social and human sciences, in the area of conservation and restoration.

- introducing concepts related to the physical, mechanical and physico- chemical properties of materials;

- learning the main methodologies for analyzing works of art and heritage objects (photographic, elementary and molecular);

- conveying the importance of conservation sciences in solving problems posed by cultural heritage, and in providing careful grounds for decisions in the practice of conservation and restoration;

- communicating science.
