Description

Objectives

Provide students with the basic knowledge of freight transport and supply chains, and with the competence to use analytical tools, information technology and other instruments to support practical logistics and supply- chain decision-making. To provide students with practical skills to handle real-world problems and develop solutions which are technically sound and feasible from the technological, functional, legal and socio-political perspectives.

Syllabus

PRODUCTION OF TRANSPORT - Market segmentation. - Physical and operational attributes for the different transport modes. Main exploitation models - Integration of Transport into production/ distribution processes - Quality management in the transport process. - System tensions, PHYSICAL DISTRIBUTION

  • Context trends for physical distribution. - Defining distribution routes. - Single and multiple vehicle routing - Integrated models for routing - Load planning - Fleet Management. SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT - Evolution of supply chains - Agents, strategies and decision processes - Typology of decisions on supply chain reengineering - Information systems and supply chain monitoring. Performance measurement and analysis. URBAN LOGISTICS - Urban logistics concepts and interaction with city - Urban distribution as part of the supply chain. - Modelling demand and planning supply. - Logistic profiles and Master Plan for Urban Logistics.

Cross Competence Component

The CU allows the development of transversal competences on Critical Thinking, namely strategic thinking and problem solving approaches, within the assignments, flash and paper presentations, and miniproject;Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Skills (oral, organizational and teamwork, self-discipline, perseverance, self-motivation skills - within the assignments, flash and paper presentations, and miniproject); and Information and Media Literacy (ability to locate and access information, as well as to analyze and evaluate media content - within the assignments, flash and paper presentations, and miniproject). The assessment percentage associated with these soft skills should be around 20%.

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
