Description
Objectives
To provide students, future Engineers within the Construction Cluster, with fundamental knowledge concerning building construction technology, both in terms of project coordination and works supervision and management. At the end of the semester, the students must have acquired solid knowledge on current building construction techniques, their application fields, their limitations and their respective vantages and advantages.
Syllabus
General aspects of the construction industry. Demolitions. Shallow, deep and semi-deep foundations. Earth retaining structures: diaphragm walls, Berlin walls, pile walls, sheet-pile walls, nailed excavations and anchors. Supported trenches, excavations and water table lowering. Basements drainage and waterproofing. Execution of reinforced concrete structures. Non traditional solutions for pavements and stairs. Non structural walls. Roofing systems. Wall claddings. Floor surfaces.
Prerequisites
It is desirable that students have been approved in the Construction Materials I CU.
Cross Competence Component
The CU allows the development of transversal competences in Critical Reasoning, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Competences and Information and Media Literacy. The evaluation percentage associated with these competences should be around 20%.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
