Description

Objectives

Provide students with approaches and instruments to assess the impacts of built environments, as well as ways to seek sustainability at different stages of the life cycle.

Syllabus

1. Built environments: Importance: types of pressure and impacts. Flows and balances of materials, energy, emissions and other systems. Carbon Energy. Carbon neutrality. 2. Introduction to the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of plans and programs and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of projects. Screening and scope, methods for identifying environmental effects and impacts and measures. 3. Introduction to the principles of sustainable built environments. Agenda 21. Environmental sustainability indicators and criteria for the urban environment in the life cycle. Focus on energy and carbon neutrality. 4. Design, assessment and certification systems for good environmental practices and the search for sustainability in buildings, infrastructure and urban areas (LiderA and other systems). 5. Introduction to environmental and sustainability management in built areas. Sustainable trends and perspectives.

Cross Competence Component

Critical and innovative thinking is privileged, as well as global citizenship, encompassing social and civic responsibility and their integration in the search for sustainable development (25%). The development of work includes the development of intrapersonal skills (proactivity and team spirit, decision making and time management); interpersonal (written communication, teamwork, oral communication); information and media literacy (information search and search; use of computer tools from the user's perspective, structuring and formatting documents and presentation) (25%).

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
