Projecto de Navios e Sistemas Oceânicos
Description
Objectives
Usage of optimization and MADM methods in ship design, with application to the initial dimensioning.
Syllabus
Initial dimensioning of a merchant ship. Numeric models of a ship. Numeric models of ports for voyage simulation and economical assessment. Dimensioning methods. Systematic variation and optimization. Single and multi-objective optimization. Optimization algorithms. Design variables and parameters. Multi Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methods.
Prerequisites
Technical Drafting for Shipbuilding, Ship Hydrostatics, Resistance and Propulsion, Main and Auxiliary Marine Systems, Marine Transport and Ports I, Ship Basic Design I, Ship Basic Design II.
Cross Competence Component
The project is carried out by a team of students. Periodic oral presentations are required to each team, during the semester to demonstrate the current status of the work and to discuss it and get guidanvce for the following work. These skills account for about 20 % of the final grade.
Programming And Computing Component
Development of applications either in Matlab or in spreadsheet(s) to solve the initial dimensioning of a merchant ship. Usage of spreadsheets to compile a database of similar ships and to provide support for statistical regressions. These components account for about 20% of the final grade.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for all group's work. In any assessment every student should honestly disclose any help received or sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
