Engenharia da Medida e Padrões (Fcul)
Description
Objectives
A – Knowing what it is to measure, one of the most fundamental acts in physical engineering, and how to evaluate the result of the process of measurement. B - Understand the concepts of unit of measurement and the international system, the concepts of error and uncertainty in measurement, and the problem of calibrating a measurement system. C – Acquire the various mathematical tools that allow a rigorous assessment of measurement uncertainty experimental, either in laboratory situations of a scientific nature or in industrial processes of control of quality. D – Know the International System of Units of Measurement, its base units and examples of the evolution of definition of units over time. E – Understand the current and future implementations of the primary standards of the main physical quantities, as well as and the processes followed to establish traceability at different scales.
Syllabus
METROLOGY: The role of metrology today and the importance of the International System of Units. Measure and the concept of standard and traceability. Concepts, definitions and the International Vocabulary of Metrology. EVOLUTION OF METROLOGY: Roadmap of the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures for the implementation of primary standards and current physical implementation of the primary standards for length, mass, time, current electrical, light intensity, temperature and mole, based on physical constants. THE MEASUREMENT: The measurement error and its estimate. Calibration of measurement systems. ASSESSMENT OF THE MEASUREMENT: The main steps to assess the uncertainty of a measurement. Assessment of the uncertainty of Measurement according to EA-4/02 and GUM. Assessment of Uncertainty of Direct and Indirect Measurements and Quantities correlated. Laboratory Intercomparison Assays and Statistical Tests for Validation of Results
