Description

Objectives

At the end of this curricular unit, students are expected to: - Understand the mechanisms of generation of action potentials in neurons and their propagation; - Know the ways to mathematically model the membrane potential in neurons. - Understand the essential electrophysiological mechanisms that explain the generation of electrical currents in the human body; - Understand essential electromagnetism concepts to explain bioelectricity phenomena; - The skills to be developed are the ability to solve bioelectricity problems, analytically or using numerical simulations.

Syllabus

Review of RC circuits. Bioelectrical potentials. Ionic channels. Action potentials Propagation of action potentials. Electrical stimulation. Volume sources and conductors. Font templates. Analysis of sources and volumetric drivers. Electroencephalography. Problem solving related to all topics covered in theoretical classes. Implementation of a code that allows simulating the response of a neuron to an electrical stimulus and studying the characteristics of that response.
