Objectives

Students will be able to prepare a drilling plan for a hydrocarbon production well, taking into account safety, environmental and economic criteria.

Syllabus

Preparation of a detailed drilling program (onshore / offshore) including: choice of rig and respective equipment, calculation of the drilling column, choice of drills, mud program, optimization of the hydraulic program, choice and calculation of the well casing pipe ( casings, liners), cementation programs, types of rig contracts, directional drilling, well control (kicks, blowouts), cost analysis and HSE.

Cross Competence Component

The UC allows the development of transversal skills in Critical Thinking, namely strategic thinking and approaches to problem solving, in presentations and debate; Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills (oral, organizational and teamwork, self-discipline, perseverance, self-motivation). The evaluation of this component should be around 15% of the global evaluation.

Laboratorial Component

Elaboration of a project to design a drilling plan.

Programming And Computing Component

Train the use of the Software to prepare a drilling plan such as: Petrel Drilling or DrillPlan by Schlumberger Delfi solutions.

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every students shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every students shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
