Gestão e Dinâmica de Sistemas Urbanos e de Infraestruturas
Description
Objectives
The course aims to develop analytical and operational skills for the management of urban systems and infrastructures. Students will be trained in advanced data analysis methods and decision support techniques, economic and multicriteria evaluation, system dynamics modeling, and project management. The goal is to promote a systemic and critical approach that enables understanding of the interdependencies among the various domains of civil engineering and the application of sustainable solutions to complex problems in real-world contexts.
Syllabus
1- Systems and Management in Civil Engineering: Framing systems engineering within the context of managing urban systems and infrastructures. Systemic approach, stakeholders, objectives, constraints, and interdependencies. 2- Univariate, Bivariate, and Multivariate Statistical Analysis Methods: Principal component analysis and cluster analysis. 3- Economic Evaluation of Projects: Financial and economic analysis: NPV, IRR, Payback, sensitivity and risk analysis, opportunity cost. Cost-benefit analysis. 4- Multicriteria Decision Making: Construction of decision matrices, definition of criteria and alternatives. Compensatory and non-compensatory methods. 5- Multi-Objective Systems Optimization: Formulation of decision problems in contexts with conflicting objectives. Exploration of efficient solutions (Pareto frontier). 6- System Dynamics Modeling: Introduction to continuous system dynamics (macro/strategic level). 7. Application to Urban and Infrastructure Projects.
Cross Competence Component
- Collaborative teamwork - Planning and organizational skills - Written and oral communication - Complex problem-solving - Critical and systemic thinking - Analytical and decision-making ability
Laboratorial Component
It does not include a traditional laboratory component, but it involves technical and applied work in computational and analytical environments (optimisation models, simulation, planning and evaluation, and multivariate data analysis methods).
Programming And Computing Component
Use of computational tools for simulation, decision support, and multivariate statistical analysis.
Ethical Principles
All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
