Termodinâmica Aplicada
Description
Objectives
To study reactive systems by applying combustion thermodynamics to different types of fuels, chemical reactions, and energy balances, with the goal of characterizing and quantifying energy conversion in processes involving chemical reactions. Evaluate advanced thermodynamic cycles, including steam, gas, organic, and refrigeration systems, based on the fundamental knowledge acquired in Fundamentals of Thermodynamics. Understand the mechanisms of heat transfer — conduction, convection, and radiation — and their relevance in the analysis and performance of real energy conversion systems.
Syllabus
Part I – Reactive Systems and Combustion: 1.1 Combustion thermodynamics: introduction; 1.2 Equivalence ratio, enthalpies of formation and reaction, calorific value; 1.3 Energy balance in combustion. Adiabatic temperature; 1.4 Combustion and the low-carbon energy transition. Part II – Advanced Thermodynamic Cycles: 2.1 Thermodynamic review and real-world cycles; 2.2 Steam and combined cycles. Nuclear. Carbon capture (CCS); 2.3 Organic cycles and cogeneration; 2.4 Engines and gas turbines. Reheating, regeneration, cooling; 2.5 Refrigeration systems; 2.6 HVAC: compression and absorption cycles. Part III – Heat Transfer: 3.1 Heat transfer mechanisms and fundamental laws; 3.2 1D conduction in steady and unsteady regimes; 3.3 Convection: laws, flow regimes, empirical correlations;3.4 Radiation and combined modes of heat transfer.
