Syllabus

1. Introduction to space environment and orbital mechanics 2. Propulsion systems for launchers, satellites and interplanetary spacecraft 3. Aerodynamics and Stability of launchers 4. Structural considerations for launchers, satellites and interplanetary spacecraft 5. Thermal considerations for launchers, satellites and interplanetary spacecraft 6. Systems engineering and integration considerations 7. Introduction to optimization techniques in the space vehicle design 8. Multidisciplinary Design Optimization applied to the design of space vehicles

Prerequisites

Knowledge of Space Environment, Orbital Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Flight Stability, Mechanics of Materials and Solids, Heat Transfer.

Cross Competence Component

Critical and inovative thinking (100%), Interpersonal competences (50%), Intrapersonal competences 100%), Global Citizenship (50%), Literacy of information and media (50%)

Programming And Computing Component

Computation and programming skills to be developed through group computational assignments: - Automation (basic operations in programming language, definition and execution of functions/routines/procedures); - Algorithmic reasoning (computational processes and methods).

Ethical Principles

All members of a group are responsible for the group's work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
