Objectives
Understanding the scientific and technological bases of nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Master preparation techniques, processing, properties and applications.
Syllabus
Chemistry and physics of surfaces in nanomaterials: Surface properties at the nano-level; forces and stability in dispersed nanomaterials Fabrication techniques: bottom-up (self-assembly, monolayers, layer-by-layer deposition, amphiphilic materials, etc.) and top-down (cleanroom microfabrication techniques, deposition, lithography, etching, etc.). Preparation, properties and applications of different types of nanomaterials: - polymer nanoparticles; - Carbon nanomaterials (fullerenes, nanotubes, graphene, GO) - metals; - semiconductors (quantum dots); - superparamagnetic nanomaterials - metal oxides - hybrid nanomaterials (nanocomposites with inorganic nanoparticles, intercalation nanomaterials, organic-inorganic nanoparticles, mesoporous hybrid materials, etc.). Cross Competence Component
Development of soft skills related to classroom discussion and presentation of seminars by students, in particular, critical thinking and creativity, written and oral communication, spirit of initiative, use of computer tools in research and management of information, structuring and presentation of research and laboratory work.
Laboratorial Component
Laboratory sessions consist of nanomaterial synthesis and their characterization by light scattering techniques (DLS, NTA) and electron microscopy (TEM, SEM), and cleanroom deposition experiments
Programming And Computing Component
Use of programs for fitting and analysis of autocorrelation curves (DLS) and quantitative image analysis (NTA,TEM,SEM), evaluated in the laboratory component.

All members of a group are responsible for the group´s work. In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used. In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
