Evaluation Methods

The evaluation consists of two quizzes midway through the term worth 25%, and a project worth 75%. The quizzes can be replaced by an exam.

The quizzes can be a bit frustrating, as much of their content is based on exercises provided by the professor without any solutions or explanations. The professor only goes through a few examples during some theoretical classes, and some quiz topics involve theory that's not on the slides and is only briefly mentioned.

Project

The project is done entirely in MATLAB and involves analyzing a series of images representing frames...

The theoretical part of the course is pretty straightforward. You can easily score a 15 without studying much. It’s based on two tests that don’t weigh that much.

The practical part consists of two projects using MATLAB. The projects are fun, and you basically learn how to identify different objects in images, which can be really useful if you’re heading into this area.

That said, I don’t agree with how the projects are graded. The instructions are never very clear and there’s a bunch of tasks to complete, but your grade ends up depending on what other groups do. Even if you do...

I didn’t enjoy this semester.

Even though the professor has been teaching this course for ages, it was very messy and disorganized. A lot of times, what he explained in class didn’t really match what he expected from us in the tests, which just confused everyone. Same thing with the lab assignments... He’d write a super generic statement and expect us to guess what he actually wanted us to do and how to present the results.

The content itself is interesting and had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, that potential wasn’t really tapped into.
